JROTC Welcomes New Leadership

August 10, 2020

JROTC has been an integral part of the Cretin and Cretin-Derham Hall experience for more than a century. We are excited to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Greg Hungiville to lead the next chapter of this long tradition.

Hungiville attended Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School in Arlington, VA.

"CDH reminds me of my roots," he said. "The first time I walked through the doors, I thought, 'This is where I belong.'"

Hungiville spent six years in the Marines and then joined the National Guard, retiring as the Air Missile Operations Chief for the MN Army National Guard after 25 years of service. He has been deployed eight times, including to Africa, South America, and the Middle East.

He describes his military career as "chapter one" of his life. He had the opportunity to travel the world, explore different cultures, develop his skills as a leader.

After retiring, he was ready for "chapter two."

He has been working on weekends as a caregiver at a senior living facility, helping residents bathe, eat, get dressed, and go about their daily lives. He started as a volunteer there, and has appreciated the opportunity to make an impact every day.

"The Lord has given me a lot of great stuff, and now it's time for me to give back," he said.

Hungiville describes the role of Senior Army Instructor as a dream job.

"When I retired, my dream was to teach the next generation. If I have the opportunity to mentor young people, they can carry the torch to be the next leaders and make a positive difference."

He hopes to focus on teamwork and leadership skills, while building a strong esprit de corps.

Hungiville lives in River Falls, WI, with his wife, Lisa, who is also retired from the National Guard. He enjoys hiking, fishing, visiting wineries, gardening, and riding his motorcycle.
