Letter from the Principal

Mona Passman, Principal
March 8, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Principal Mona PassmanWhen students come back to school on Monday, they will be returning to the start of a new trimester.  For the seniors, this will be their final term before embarking on their college or post-secondary journey.  CDH has plans to provide a worthwhile and relevant transition out of high school for them.  We will continue to host many of the familiar events including Last Supper, Baccalaureate,  Graduation, and more.

We will be making some changes to our formal student recognition process with a goal to provide a more memorable and meaningful experience for our students.

The most substantial change is a new format for awards recognition. This year we will host an All-School Awards Assembly on the afternoon of Friday, May 19.

This will replace the Honors Night held in the evening in past years. It has become increasingly more difficult for many of the award recipients and their parents to attend the evening ceremony.  Since this awards ceremony will now be held during the school day, the entire student body, faculty and staff can also recognize the award recipients.  The special awards will honor select seniors and juniors.  Their parents/guardians will also be invited to attend. We believe this new format will honor the recipients with greater recognition from a wider audience including their peers and teachers.  In addition, academic department awards will now be presented to students during theater homeroom assemblies this spring. We are excited about these new initiatives to honor our students and the enthusiasm the entire student body and faculty will generate.

The second change will occur within our publications. Last year, our spring/summer edition of Traditions honored our graduates and the academic school year.  We plan to expand this focus this year and in years to come.

We are also making some changes to the printed commencement program. Parents have expressed some frustration providing accurate and extensive scholarship information by our print deadline. This year we will recognize each student who receives a scholarship with a symbol next to their name. This will alleviate the pressure on families to provide complete information from the many and varied institutions while continuing to recognize those students who earn scholarships.

Please watch for future communications regarding these changes.

May this spring provide many memorable and positive moments for our seniors and their families. We wish all of our students a productive third trimester!
