April 3, 2020

Each year, St. Catherine University selects one student to receive the Elizabeth Ann Beatson O'Shaughnessy Merit Scholarship, which covers full tuition and fees. The student is selected on the basis of outstanding academic performance and extraordinary artistic or musical talent or excellence in extracurricular accomplishments. This year, Anneke van Oosterom '20 was the deserving recipient!

"I feel honored and blessed to have been chosen for The O’Shaugnessy Scholarship and I would like to reiterate my thanks to the O’Shaugnessy family and the admissions staff at St. Kate’s," she said. "Currently, I see dental or medical school in my future. The scholarship has given me the freedom to afford the next step while enjoying my undergrad experience."

Her teachers at CDH describe Anneke as a committed and determined student.

"Anneke earned the admiration of her peers and her teacher in the way she participated in class, asking questions and understanding the concepts," said Math teacher Maureen Modl. "She has an amazing work ethic. Her assignments were done accurately and thoroughly with great attention to detail. She attempted even the most challenging problems and sought out their solutions when they got the better of her. She never left the classroom with an unanswered question."

Anneke has participated extensivly in service and the swim team during her time at CDH. She plans to continue to swim at St. Kate's.

"I chose St. Kate’s because of the opportunities available to me there," she said. "I am interested in being a dentist and they have a pre-dental track. It is also a continuation of the Catholic education that I am receiving at CDH which is important to me. The small class sizes and invested professors were extremely attractive. In addition to this, I found a home with the St. Kate’s swim team. The team’s goals and work ethic align with my own and I will be able to contribute as an incoming freshman."
