The Class of 2021 has missed out on many of the traditions that usually take place during senior year at Cretin-Derham Hall due to COVID-19 restrictions. They didn’t have a normal Homecoming week and have only gone to school with their entire grade for the last couple of months of the year. Despite the challenges, the Administration, Student Council, and parents were determined to give them the opportunity to participate in as many end-of-the-year traditions as possible.

On Saturday, May 8, the senior class had the opportunity to attend their “Senior Extravaganza,” which was a combination of Prom, the Last Supper, the Lock-In, and the Senior Showcase. The event took place at CHS field in Downtown St. Paul. This was the first-ever Prom hosted at the stadium.

The evening began with the Grand March, which gave seniors the chance to walk across the baseball field and take photos with their dates on home plate.  The students were then invited to go upstairs to eat at the "Last Supper."  After dinner, the "Prom" portion of the night began, giving the students time to hang out, dance, and just enjoy time together.  With the dugout as their stage, the Senior Showcase, which allows students to show off a talent or trick to their classmates, wrapped up the night and gave students a chance to appreciate the different and unique talents of their classmates.

“CDH did the best they could giving us a normal prom and absolutely hit it out of the park,” said Keely Salisbury ’21.

Almost 100 percent of the senior class participated in the event, which shows how much they have been wanting to celebrate being together and how hard it has been for them not to have the senior year they had all imagined.

“We’ve had such a tough senior year and being able to come together and have the Extravaganza was so special,” said Shannon Cummings ’21.

The event allowed the seniors to spend time with their entire class and strengthen a bond that they had lost during the time they spent separated throughout the year.

“I am lucky to surround myself with the amazing members of the class of 2021,” said Carson Topp ’21.

Congratulations, Class of 2021!
