Spring Athletics Achieves Remarkable Success during Season

After one of the most successful springs in the history of the Cretin-Derham Hall athletics program, dozens of Raiders were honored with post-season team and individual awards by local media and coaches.

We celebrated section championships for CDH’s boys lacrosse and softball teams and had a strong showing by our boys and girls golf, baseball and track and field teams.

Here is a list of those honored  by local media, the MSHSL and national governing bodies.

  • Softball captured the Section 4AAA Championship and then placed 3rd in the MSHSL State Tournament finishing with a record of 18-9. Sophie Black ’23 and Brooke Nesdahl ’25 were named to the all-tournament team.

  • Boys Lacrosse captured their first ever section championship by defeating Eagan 9-8 in 4 overtimes. Joey Henningsgard ’24 scored the game winner. They are competing in the MSHSL State Tournament this week at Stillwater High School.

  • Boys and Girls Golf each had one golfer named all-state. Congratulations to Lily Vincelli ’24 and Sam Udovich ’25 on earning those prestigious honors.

  • Vincelli and Udovich, along with Miles Bollinger ’24 and Joe Honsa ’25 are competing this week in the MSHSL State Golf Tournament at Bunker Hills.

  • The baseball team had a tremendous year winning the Suburban East Conference Championship. Jack Taxdahl ’23 was named a Minnesota Mr. Baseball Finalist and All-State and teammate. PJ Jones ’24 was named all state and is a finalist for the prestigious Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year Award. Taxdahl will play for The University of Minnesota next year and Jones will play for the University of Maryland in two years.

  • Track and field had a successful year which saw Micheal Seifu ’25 qualify for the state tournament in the 300m Hurdles. Seifu placed 15th in the state competition.

  • Girls lacrosse had a banner year under 1st year head coach Jeff Rosga ’89. Sofia Watts ’24 earned all-state honors and Anna Stangler ’23 earned USA Lacrosse All -American Academic honors.

On the coaching front, three CDH Coaches received post season honors, Bob Kinne ’11 was named Boys Golf Suburban East Coach of the Year, Buzz Hannahan ’94 was named Baseball Suburban East Coach of the Year and Carolyn Osdoba was named Softball Section 4AAA Coach of the Year.
