Students Receive Eagle Scout Award

May 3, 2017

Congratulations to Seniors Chris JohnsonLouie Shearon and Chris Rugloski for recently earning their Eagle Scout Awards from the Boy Scouts of America. The Eagle Scout award, the highest award given to a Boy Scout, is the culmination of a ten-year commitment to service, leadership, and citizenship. The final component of this achievement is to utilize their leadership skills by personally developing and completing a final Eagle Project which benefits the community.

Johnson's project involved the construction and distribution of ten Little Free Libraries to the Communities of Shoreview, Lino Lakes, and Arden Hills. He has always had a love of books and reading, and so he wanted to share that with others. He asked people who lived in neighborhoods with a lot of children, because these libraries are primarily focused on keeping children interested in reading; especially over the summer months.

Shearon’s project involved building a retaining wall at St. Odilia in their Prayer Garden. He picked this project because he wanted to give back to his grade school and church. The retaining wall he built was designed to keep the Mary Statue from eroding off of the hill it was sitting on. He had over 50 people show up to the project!

Rugloski's project involved the construction of handicap accessible items for River Valley Riders in Afton, Minnesota, including a wheelchair accessible table and a horse mounting block and steps for disabled people. He has volunteered for River Valley Riders in the past, and through volunteering, has found the rewards of sharing his abilities to help those in need. "Scouting has taught me both about being self-sufficient and about the need to help each other".

Congratulations to these young men!
