Yolk by Mary H.K. Choi
The latest novel from Choi, a new adult fiction about two estranged sisters will appeal to older teens and adults alike. June and Jayne Baek, once very close and now miles apart due to conflicting lifestyles and goals, are brought back together when an unexpected cancer diagnosis rocks their worlds. Bring a box of tissues and be ready to laugh and cry all at once with this one.
A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes
The voices of the women surrounding the Trojan War are silent no more. From the sisters and mothers of the fallen city of Troy, to Penelope awaiting her husband, to the goddesses whose squabble started it all, these are stories that are ready to be told. Fans of Madeline Miller's best-selling novel Circe will find much to love with this soaring epic.
Nonfiction
Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall
I'll echo many other reviewers when I say that this book is required reading. Be prepared, however, as Kendall does not tiptoe around nor sugarcoat as she breaks down the issues that have been overlooked by mainstream feminism for too long. Whether it's taking on the housing crisis, mental health, or maternal mortality, Kendall's essays outline where intersectional feminism needs to go in order to right historical wrongs done to women of color and support ALL women moving forward.
