2019 Raider Summer Camp Opportunities

For younger players ready to gain fundamental skills and get into the game, Raider Hockey Skills Camps are the best place to start! Students are given the opportunity to learn the game of hockey at a pace suitable for their skill and ability, with plenty of practice time — programs are built around on-ice instruction, focusing on power-skating, shooting, passing, positional playing, and small area games. Participants learn and practice under personalized direction from Cretin-Derham Hall’s hockey staff as well as current varsity players, alumni and guest instructors. We will have two sessions for all future Raiders to join us for the fun.

Girls Hockey

By Brooke White-Lancette, Head Coach

The CDH Girls Hockey staff is preparing for Summer Training Camp with an emphasis on personal skills development with measurable results. As we welcome talented new players, we anticipate that their energy, along with the leadership and experience from returning players will create a fun and competitive training camp. We expect our newly appointed captains, Stella Dolan '20, Cece Ziegler '20, Kiera Ryan '20, and Olivia Garrity '20, will all play an integral role.

The CDH Girls Hockey program looks to maintain a strong foundation, which will help create a positive culture in our program and in our community. There are a few exciting things coming up for the program, including our great summer camp in June and July. Some other things to look forward to:

  • June 10 and 12 - Head Coach Brooke White-Lancette will bring the Minnesota Whitecaps Championship trophy "Isobel Cup" to CDH Girls Hockey Summer Training Camp to share with the CDH players, community and fans at Highland Arena during the first week of camp.
  • June 19 - Guest Speakers, Coaches and Special Equipment Day.  Come for an opportunity to try on and use sticks and skates to better educate players in proper sizing, fitting, height/weight, and flex. Players will be able to be fitted and use equipment on-ice at camp.
  • Each player will have a Video Analysis to track technique and progress and to provide instant feedback on form/technique, body posture, and skating stride.

Boys Lacrosse

By Matt Hourigan, Head Coach

The Boys Lacrosse team is off to its best start since 2013! The team has an overall record of 5-1 and is 3-1 in Suburban East Conference play. This includes a crucial win over perennial conference powerhouse White Bear Lake, which marks the first time the Raiders beat the Bears since lacrosse became a sanctioned sport at CDH in 2012.

The Raiders are being led by a strong defensive unit comprised of defensemen Ted Muetzel '20, Will Burke '20, and Aidan Johnson '20 and netminder Steven Shaughnessy '20, who together have allowed only seven goals against per game on average!

Carter Steele '19 leads the way in scoring with 34 points (16g,18a) and Ryan Schwartz '20 has tallied a team-high 22 goals. Midfielder Jake Kircher '20 has dominated possession for the Raiders through the faceoff X, winning 74 percent of draws as well as contributing four goals and three assists to the scoresheet.

Girls Gymnastics

By Nicole Cleeton, Head Coach

The 2019-2020 school year hasn't even started yet but Gymnastics Season will be here before you know it! We have an amazing opportunity this summer to get a head start on the season.  We encourage all of you to come out this summer to learn some new skills for the season. Email niccleeton@gmail.com if you are interested in the Summer Camp July 22-26.

Our Cretin-Derham Hall/SPA Co-op Gymnastics team is in somewhat of a rebuilding process since we did not have enough girls to fill a team last year. Our goal this year is to provide an exciting and competitive experience for all of our gymnasts involved. I cannot wait to meet all of you and I look forward to working with each and every one of you to meet our goals as a team and help you reach your goals as an individual gymnast.

Great students! Great racers! Congratulations to all of them!

When you see these racers speeding through the halls...congratulate them, and ask them about joining the team next season!  The returning racers can give you the true sense of the fun involved!  The experienced coaching staff can guide you in everything you need know to get off to a great start in ski racing or bring your existing skills to a higher level.

Plans are in the works for some fun offseason activities. If you are interested in learning more about the CDH Alpine Ski Team, you are welcome to attend our gatherings!

Counseling

by Joan O'Connell, College Counselor

The CDH Education Fair was held April 8 for junior students and their families. We hosted over 100 colleges and universities that evening. Students found it to be a convenient way to make contact with admissions representatives and get their questions answered. A special thanks to the Post-Secondary Parent Committee for hosting a dinner for admissions representatives prior to the event!

Attention Juniors

  • Be sure to check your CDH Naviance account for information about the college search process.  Remember to take the online career inventories by clicking on “Do What You Are”, “StrengthsExplorer” and “career interest profiler” for some additional career possibilities!

  • The late registration deadline for the June 8 ACT test is May 20. Register online at www.actstudent.org.

  • The dates for the Minnesota Private College Week this year are June 24– 28, 2019. All of the private colleges in Minnesota welcome prospective students and their parents to campus during this week, in both morning and afternoon sessions. Wisconsin’s private colleges will host a similar visiting week this summer from July 8–13, 2019. Call colleges or go online in advance to let them know you would like to attend.

Attention Seniors

  • Colleges will be sending you important information on housing, registration, and orientation. Be sure to read and respond to your email.

  • A reminder that ALL colleges require a final transcript of your high school grades as a condition of enrollment so be sure to continue to do your best work! Major schedule changes or an obvious drop in grades senior year can have consequences including the loss of merit scholarships and/or your spot in the incoming class.

  • It is contrary to the "Statement of Principles of Good Practice" of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling for students to make multiple college enrollment deposits. CDH will send only one final transcript in June. Consult with your counselor if you need help making your decision as the consequences of “multiple depositing” can include rescinding offers of admission.

  • Graduates in the Class of 2019 who have paid for PACC (Program for Advanced College Credit) credits from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and who want to get college credits for these courses must have a transcript sent from St. Mary’s to the college or university where the student will attend this fall. That school can then determine whether or not they will award college credit for this work in high school. To request an official St. Mary’s transcript, visit the website at www.smumn.edu and search for PACC to be directed to the appropriate webpage for a transcript request. Questions? Call St. Mary’s at 1-800-635-5987 ext.1501.

  • If you took CIS (College in the Schools) Classes at CDH through the University of Minnesota and want these classes to be considered for college credit at the school you will attend next fall, you will need to request an official University of MN transcript. Go to www.onestop.umn.edu and click “Grades & Transcripts” to request your transcript.

  • To send your AP scores to your college, go to https://apscore.collegeboard.org and follow instructions. Scores for tests taken in May of 2019 will be available in July.

  • Graduating seniors who are planning to attend state colleges and universities in Wisconsin must file a “Tuition Reciprocity Application” with the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office in order to receive tuition reciprocity. Applications for the 2019-2020 academic year are available online at www.getreadyforcollege.org. This application must be filed and approved before a student can register for classes at the reduced tuition rate — so don’t delay. If you are attending a public university in North or South Dakota, you will arrange for reciprocity through the school you will attend.

  • Remember that CDH teachers write hundreds of letters of recommendation for students as they apply to colleges and universities — over and above all the other responsibilities they have as classroom teachers and coaches. Be sure to let your recommenders know where you have decided to attend college in the fall and please take a minute to thank them for this very important work that they do on your behalf.
