Letter from the Principal - October 2019

October 9, 2019

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are quickly approaching mid-trimester and are looking forward to hosting you at Parent-Teacher Conferences next week. We have settled into the full rhythm of Cretin-Derham Hall and I want to acknowledge all the hard work and effort of our students, staff, and parents. Thank you.

So far, we have experienced two all-school Masses, our Senior Women’s Retreat, our PFP retreat, and our 9th Grade Retreats. Our seniors are heading into their second week of Thursday Senior Service/Fieldwork. Our community celebrated Homecoming with Raider pride. We are jumping into the start of athletic section play. Our 270 JROTC cadets have participated in their Fall Review and Camp Ripley Weekend. We enjoyed the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration and are preparing for Bandcake Breakfast this weekend and our first choir concert. The Fall Play auditions were held and rehearsal for “The Hobbit” is well underway. Many other clubs and activities have started. Our CASA families have met several times. Even our alumni have been back to campus many times, celebrating reunions and participating in special events with our students such as Alumni Leaders in the Classroom. Our faculty, staff, and students have accomplished all of this while maintaining a challenging academic environment.

In addition to these already established events, CDH is starting a new fall tradition. In October through early January, our Admissions Office is hosting parent tours for prospective families.  These tours are replacing our former Open Houses. Our goal is to create a more personal introduction to CDH than is possible in a large group setting. This new format will also provide an opportunity for us to showcase the outstanding learning environment students experience at CDH.  Parents will have an opportunity to learn about our programs, tour the building with CDH students, meet parents and administrators and ask questions. Most importantly, our guests will experience our dynamic school community in action including our distinguished teaching staff, remarkable student body, and vibrant curriculum and programs. Please get the word out. I invite current parents with prospective students to visit as well.

We look forward to seeing you at Parent-Teacher Conferences.
